A General Atomics affiliate has secured an $82.6 million contract to continue into the next phase of a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency-backed program seeking an unmanned system designed to employ multiple air-to-air weapons.
DARPA is obligating $24.5 million in fiscal 2023 research and development funds at the time of LongShot Phase III award to General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. and estimates contract work to conclude in October 2025, the Department of Defense said Friday.
The amount of the cost-plus-fixed-fee award does not include unexercised options.
GA-ASI, Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) and Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) were awarded contracts in February 2021 to perform initial design work under the program.
The agency selected GA-ASI in March last year to proceed with the second phase covering detailed designs and ground tests after the preliminary design review.
General Atomics previously said forthcoming program activities would include manufacturing and fly-testing the LongShot UAV prototype.
