Cubic’s (NYSE: CUB) mission and performance solutions segment has received a contract from the U.S. Air Force to provide airborne pods for the service branch’s P5 Combat Training System at various range facilities located within the continental U.S.
The company said Monday it will also supply auxiliary hardware to support military fighter training as part of the Combat Air Force Contracted Air Support initiative and expects to deliver the pods to CONUS ranges this summer.
Leonardo DRS serves as Cubic’s principal subcontractor for the effort and the companies work together to maintain P5 CTS for military customers.
The partnership received a contract last year for the maintenance of 1,000 P5 CTS units for the Air Force and international defense clients.
The training system is designed to generate, adjudicate engagement of weapons, process mission data and transmit time, space and positioning information during sorties.
P5CTS pods are intended to support “red air” training with aircraft acting as adversaries in line with air combat maneuvering instrumentation criteria for interoperability with fourth- and fifth-generation fighter platforms, Cubic noted.
