Collins Aerospace, a business unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), has received an order from the Federal Aviation Administration to supply a head-up display virtual reality technology for the agency's scientific research efforts.
FAA intends to use the VR trainer in efforts to study crew workload, pilot performance and HUD interface, Collins Aerospace said Tuesday.
The device will be equipped with company-built guidance and vision systems and will work to virtually simulate a pilot's view through the aircraft window.
Nick Gibbs, vice president and general manager of simulation and training solutions at Collins Aerospace, said the company's trainer platform is designed to train pilots on different maneuvers when operating in a complex situation.
