Christopher J. Sweeney, a former Office of the Chief of Naval Operations official, has joined Lockheed Martin’s Rotary and Mission Systems as vice president of sustainment strategy and growth initiative. Sweeney confirmed his new role in a LinkedIn post Monday.
Who is Christopher Sweeney
Sweeney brings to the role over four years of experience at the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, or OPNAV, where he most recently served as director of integrated warfare. According to his LinkedIn profile, he oversaw the Navy’s efforts to synchronize all platforms and software for its robotic and autonomous systems. He was also the Navy’s Future Requirements lead for Pillar II of the trilateral agreement between Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States, also known as AUKUS.
He also held the position of deputy director for strategy, plans, posture and capability for the U.S. European Command. At EUCOM, he spearheaded efforts to foster relationships with NATO and European leadership and managed the $4.5-billion European Deterrence Initiative.
Sweeney has logged over 20 years of service at the U.S. Navy. He started as a naval officer in 1991, became the commanding officer for the missile destroyer USS Decatur and eventually led the Destroyer Squadron 15, the Navy’s largest forward-deployed destroyer squadron, as commodore.
In a LinkedIn post, Dan Tenney, VP of strategy and business at Lockheed RMS, welcomed Sweeney to the company.
“His exceptional leadership and experience will deliver tremendous value to our customers around the world,” Tenney wrote.
