Chad Wolf, acting undersecretary of policy at the Department of Homeland Security, has been selected to serve as DHS secretary on an interim basis, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday.
Hogan Gidley, a spokesman for the White House, said Kevin McAleenan, a 2019 Wash100 awardee who announced in October his resignation, will leave after Veterans Day and will be replaced by Wolf.
Sources said the White House plans to nominate a permanent secretary and Mark Morgan, acting commissioner of the Customs and Border Protection, emerges as the top contender for the post.
Wolf was nominated for the role of acting DHS undersecretary of policy in February. He previously served as chief of staff at DHS and the Transportation Security Administration. He also worked as a lobbyist for the National Association of Software and Services Companies.
