The company said Thursday it will manufacture 14 Poseidon planes for Canada’s air force and three units for the German navy.
“The Poseidon is a proven aircraft, with more than 600,000 flight hours, that will serve Canada and Germany well in today’s challenging security environment and for decades to come,” said Philip June, vice president and program manager of P-8A at Boeing.
In November, Canada announced that it will acquire the Poseidon aircraft to replace its fleet of CP-140 Aurora planes. The country expects the first P-8A to be delivered in 2026.
Boeing works with CAE, GE Aviation Canada, Honeywell Aerospace Canada, IMP Aerospace & Defence, KF Aerospace, Raytheon Canada and StandardAero as part of Canada’s Team Poseidon.
Germany’s recent order will bring the total number of P-8As to eight, replacing the navy’s fleet of P-3 Orion aircraft. The first Poseidon will be delivered in 2025.
Boeing has teamed up with Lufthansa Technik and ESG Elektroniksystem-und to provide systems integration, sustainment and training services in support of the Poseidon program in Germany.
P-8 Poseidon is a maritime patrol aircraft designed to support anti-surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare, search and rescue and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions.
