Boeing has finalized the acquisition of Spirit AeroSystems to reinforce aviation safety and aircraft quality while supporting stability across Boeing’s commercial production and supply chain operations.
What Is the Role of Spirit AeroSystems After the Transaction?
Boeing said Monday it will establish Spirit Defense as a non‑integrated subsidiary under Boeing Defense, Space & Security, operating independently with separate governance to ensure workforce continuity and ongoing support for U.S. defense and space customers.
What Does Boeing’s Acquisition of Spirit AeroSystems Include?
Spirit AeroSystems operations will be integrated into Boeing Commercial Airplanes, including 737 fuselage production; key structures for the 767, 777 and 787 Dreamliner; and commercially procured fuselages for the P-8 and KC-46. The acquisition also unites Spirit’s spare-parts operations with Boeing, fully integrates Spirit’s aftermarket leasing and exchange operations into Boeing Global Services, and broadens Boeing’s global maintenance and repair services.
The deal also includes portions of Spirit’s Belfast, Northern Ireland, site, which will continue as Boeing’s independent subsidiary, Short Brothers. Spirit facilities in Kansas, Texas and Oklahoma; the Aerospace Innovation Center in Prestwick, Scotland; and around 15,000 Spirit AeroSystems employees will be integrated into Boeing.
“As we welcome our new teammates and bring our two companies together, our focus is on maintaining stability so we can continue delivering high quality airplanes, differentiated services, and advanced defense capabilities for our customers and the industry,” said Kelly Ortberg, president and CEO of Boeing.
