Boeing (NYSE: BA) will provide guidance subsystems support for the U.S. Air Force’s Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile under a potential 16-year, $1.6 billion contract.
Minuteman ICBM guidance systems have recorded more than 40 million hours of operation and Boeing said Wednesday it will help maintain the readiness of such technologies to ensure strategic deterrence into the late 2030s.
Work on the sole-source, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract will occur in Ogden, Utah, and Heath, Ohio, through Feb. 1, 2039.
The Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center at Hill Air Force Base in Utah is the contracting activity and is obligating $8.3 million in operation and maintenance funds for fiscal year 2023, according to the Department of Defense.
The Boeing-built Minuteman III ICBM system has served as the nuclear triad’s backbone. The company has supported the weapons platform’s guidance, re-entry, propulsion and ground subsystems.
