The U.S. Air Force has awarded Boeing (NYSE: BA) a potential $208.3M contract to provide sensors designed to help F-15 pilots detect and track airborne threats.
USAF will initially obligate $154.6M to procure Legion Pod infrared search-and-track pods through the contract that runs through Nov. 30, 2020, the Defense Department said Friday.
The project covers IRST engineering, manufacturing and development, production, integration, test and deployment efforts.
Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) previously said it expects to receive a contract from Boeing this year to help build the aircraft sensors.
Legion Pod is designed to recognize targets in radar-denied environments and Lockheed has demonstrated the system on the F-15C and F-16 platforms through more than 25 flight tests.
