A subsidiary of marine engineering company Birdon has won a potential 10-year, $191.1M contract to support the U.S. Coast Guard’s service life extension program for 47-foot Motor Lifeboats. USCG announced the award of contract to Denver-based Birdon America in a FedBizOpps notice posted Monday.
The program will involve design, integration, test and transportation efforts to support the refurbishment of 117 MLBs that are nearing the conclusion of their 25-year lifespan.
Birdon aims to help the service branch extend the fleet™s life by 20 years and update legacy equipment through the firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract. The 47 MLB is an all-aluminum rescue boat designed by Textron (NYSE: TXT) for critical infrastructure security and patrol missions.
