Bechtel's plant machinery company has received two contract modifications with a combined value of $1.14B to provide propulsion components for the U.S. Navy's nuclear-powered ships.
The two awards are individually valued at $662.2M and $482.4M, with funds taken from fiscal 2021 shipbuilding and conversion allotments, the Department of Defense said Thursday.
Work under both modifications will take place in Monroeville, Pennsylvania; and Schenectady, New York, with an indefinite completion date.
Naval Sea Systems Command issued the modifications as part of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program and will immediately obligate the full amounts of both awards.
The initiative is aimed at providing effective nuclear propulsion plants to the military and ensuring that its operations are safe and reliable.
