BAE's US Arm to Build More Laser-Guided Rockets for US, Intl Defense Clients Under $618M IDIQ Contract

The U.S. Navy has awarded BAE Systems Inc., the British contractor™s U.S. subsidiary, a potential $618.3 million contract for the full-rate production of precision laser-guided rocket systems.

The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract covers the supply of FRP lots 5 to 7 Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System II rounds to the Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force as well as the governments of Australia, Netherlands, Jordan, Iraq and Lebanon under a foreign military sales deal, the Defense Department said Friday.

DoD noted the company will also provide WGU-59/B guidance units to update the current 2.75-inch APKWS rocket system to a semi-active weapon.

APKWS rockets are designed to strike air-, ground- and sea-based targets with a hit rate of approximately 93 percent, according to BAE.

The Naval Air Systems Command in Patuxent River, Maryland will obligate funds with each delivery order and work will take place at BAE’s facilities in New Hampshire and Texas through December 2018.
