BAE Systems‘ U.S. subsidiary has secured a $180.5 million contract from the U.S. Navy to continue to produce laser-guided rockets for U.S. and international defense customers.
The company said Monday the latest order for its Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System is funded under an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract the service branch awarded in October 2016.
Rachel Guill, director of precision guidance solutions at BAE Systems Inc., said the company aims to deliver APWKS rockets ahead of schedule to address a growing demand from the U.S. government and allied nations.
APKWS laser-guided rockets are designed to decrease the risk of a collateral damage and integrate with current munitions and weapons systems.
The rockets are deployed on fixed- and rotary-wing platforms, BAE noted.
