BAE to Invest $150M in Texas Expansion; Dave Harrold Quoted

BAE Systems plans to spend $150M to establish a campus in Austin, Texas, to support the development and production of electronic systems for the defense sector.

The 390K-square-foot facility at Parmer Austin Business Park is scheduled for 2022 completion and designed to accommodate approximately 1,400 personnel, the company said Tuesday.

The campus will include office space, a laboratory, an engineering hub and a manufacturing area for BAE’s current and emerging programs that include work on electro-optical/infrared and radio-frequency countermeasure systems.

Dave Harrold, vice president and general manager of countermeasure and electromagnetic attack solutions at BAE, said the company seeks to continue its innovation efforts in Austin and he believes the city is an ideal location to find professionals that can help deliver new technology to customers.

According to defense firm, the investment builds on its contributions to the Innovation Council of the Austin Capital Factory, which works with small businesses and startups for programs encompassing areas such as cyber, electronic warfare and sensor systems.

The future BAE campus is close to the U.S. Army Futures Command headquarters.
