BAE Gets Potential $267M Contract to Extend UK Navy Ship Combat Tech Support

BAE Systems has received a seven-year contract worth approximately $267.5 million from the British defense ministry to help sustain availability of combat systems onboard U.K. navy ships.

The company said Thursday it will maintain equipment availability, address obsolescence and update the combat systems of 38 ships under the Joint Support Solution 2 contract.

JSS 2 is a follow-on to the original JSS contract that was awarded in 2010 and included repairs, technology upgrades and spare parts for Type 23 frigates, landing platform docks, HMS Ocean carrier, RFA Argus ship and mine countermeasure vessels.

The new contract will expand the JSS support model to include Type 45 destroyers and Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carriers.

BAE will install the U.K. defense ministry’s Shared Infrastructure system into the Type 45 and QEC ships to aid the rapid assessment, tests and deployment of new technologies.

The company will perform contract work through March 2024 and invest nearly $67 million into 27 suppliers across the U.K.
