The U.S. Army has awarded BAE Systems a potential $74.7M contract to design, build and commission a new facility at the service’s ammunition factory in Kingsport, Tenn.
BAE said Tuesday it will construct the Recrystallization and Slurry Coating Formulation facility to modernize the process for manufacturing military products at the Holston Army Ammunition Plant.
Mark Hellstern, director of modernization of ordnance systems at BAE, said the project aims to increase HSAAP’s production capacity to address product demands from the Department of Defense for domestic and international missions.
Construction work is scheduled to conclude by late 2021. The facility will feature systems designed to œrecrystallize energetics for quality and formulation specifications and a dual use platform to œdewater materials.
BAE’s ordnance systems business has supported modernization projects at HSAAP since 1999.
