BAE Systems has received $245 million contract from the U.K.’s ministry of defense for the acquisition of a gun system to be integrated on the country’s global combat ship fleet.
BAE said Thursday it will provide three Maritime Indirect Fires System integrated gunnery systems that includes a 62-caliber Mk 45 Mod 4 Naval Gun System as well as an automated handling system along with a gun fire control system and qualified ammunition.
The company will integrate the MIFS IGS on U.K.’s Type 26 global combat ships at its facilities in Kentucky, Minnesota, Barrow-in-Furness, Frimley and Glascoed through 2020.

BAE added the U.K. government has committed to acquire eight Type 26 global combat ships to replace its current fleet of anti-submarine warfare Type 23 frigates.
