AT&T, Howard Community College Launch IT Apprenticeship Program; Knute Olson Quoted

AT&T (NYSE: T) has partnered with Howard Community College to offer an apprenticeship program aimed at helping students pursue information technology career and industry certification opportunities.

The AT&T Catapult program is scheduled to run for 18 months and will provide full-time employment at the telecommunications firm for a minimum period of two years, HCC said.

The program covers coursework activities at the company™s global public sector facility in Columbia, Md., and includes paid apprenticeships in the IT field support, network field support and information systems security specialist tracks.

œThis apprenticeship offers a one-of-a-kind opportunity for students interested in pursuing IT careers to gain valuable work experience under the mentorship of leading professionals in the field, said Knute Olson, client executive associate vice president at AT&T’s global public sector business.

HCC selected 24 out of over 100 applications for the program following its announcement in October. The program is slated to begin in January.

Eligible students may obtain a government security clearance upon their completion of training.
