Applied Signals Intelligence Appoints Azhar Haq as VP, CFO

Applied Signals Intelligence has appointed Azhar Haq as vice president and chief financial officer, with a focus on contracts, compliance and ethics. Haq, who announced the appointment in a LinkedIn post on Wednesday, brings over two decades of financial leadership in the defense technology sector, with senior roles at Antenna Research Associates and DRS Signal Solutions.

Veteran Finance Leader in Defense Technology

Haq held the same role at ARA from January 2019 to January 2025. Prior to joining ARA, he served as the director of finance at Common Securitization Solutions from 2017 to 2018.

Earlier, he spent more than a decade at DRS Signal Solutions, where he progressed from senior manager of financial planning and analysis to director of finance and CFO. He also briefly served as DRS’s acting general manager and CEO.

The executive holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration, with a concentration in finance and international business, from the George Washington University School of Business.

  • A Phase II SBIR project in 2015 focused on developing small-form airborne high frequency, very-high frequency and ultra-high frequency direction-finding systems suitable for sUAS integration.
  • A 2023 Phase I SBIR award from the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, under which the company worked on ultrawideband signal intercept and electronic attack design concepts.

ASI in Defense Initiatives

ASI was among the five companies selected by the Navy and U.S. Special Operations Command in 2023 to develop the Joint Threat Warning System’s Directional-Finding antenna under a $9.3M award via the Strategic & Spectrum Missions Advanced Resilient Trusted Systems other transaction authority.
