Teresa Smetzer, vice president of national security programs at Salesforce (NYSE: CRM), has said the adoption of artificial intelligence could help government agencies leverage large volumes of data, allow them to free up employees to focus more on mission-critical issues and accelerate the delivery of services to citizens.
“AI technology can help by finding and analyzing data so that people can apply those insights to the higher-value work of generating mission insights in a timely manner, improving government services and enabling customer engagement,” Smetzer wrote.
She cited optimization and recommendation systems as some of the “best-of-breed approaches to machine learning that are practical, mature and already in use.” Optimization, for instance, could help agencies better manage the supply chain and materials delivery operations.
Smetzer called on agencies to conduct more experimentation and determine the source of data to protect AI models from potential distortions.
Agencies should collaborate with trusted industry partners that take into consideration AI ethics and data privacy as well as keep pace with latest AI developments, she noted.
She also discussed how Tableau and MuleSoft capabilities could help agencies, data scientists and mission users glean insights from data. “Ultimately, government understanding of what’s buried in all that data is essential to delivering superior services,” she added.
