Army Taps DRS for $400M Joint Assault Bridge Development IDIQ; Joe Matteoni Comments

DRS Technologies has received a potential $400 million contract from the U.S. Army to develop a new Joint Assault Bridge system.

DRS™ sustainment systems business unit will oversee the production of the hydraulic bridge launcher and M1A1 chassis assembly as well as system integration work under the indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract, DRS said Tuesday.

The JAB system consists of an M1A1 Abrams tank hull and a hydraulic bridge launcher platform designed to field and recover a scissor-type bridge that works to allow combat vehicles and warfighters to cross over dry or wet gaps.

Joe Matteoni, vice president and general manager of DRS™ sustainment systems business unit, said the company will work with Israel Military Industries to develop the JAB system in support of ground combat teams™ missions.

DRS will perform work in Anniston, Alabama, and West Plains, Missouri under the contract awarded through a competitive bidding process.

DRS has managed the chassis assembly for the program under a public-private partnership with Anniston Army Depot and has collaborated with Israel Military Industries to perform design and engineering work on the JAB system.
