Archer Aviation (NYSE: ACHR) will build and deliver electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft to the U.S. Air Force under new contracts worth $142 million combined, expanding a partnership that started through the AFWERX technology program in 2021.
The contracts mark the execution phase for the delivery of up to six Archer-built Midnight eVTOL systems, which the service branch plans to use as an alternative to helicopters for rescue operations, logistics and personnel transport, the company said Monday.
Midnight is designed with an electric powertrain technology, a low noise profile and a payload capacity of about 1,000 pounds.
Adam Goldstein, founder and CEO, said the company aims to help the Air Force and the Department of Defense integrate the eVTOL platform into operations.
Services under the agreement include flight test data sharing, certification-related test reporting, maintenance and repair process development and pilot training.
