Venture-backed defense technology provider Anduril Industries has bought Georgia-based Area-I, which maintains a portfolio of autonomous tube-launched unmanned aerial systems or air-launched effects, for an undisclosed amount.
Anduril said Thursday it seeks to add software-defined mission autonomy and intelligent teaming applications to the company’s UAS hardware portfolio through the acquisition.
Area-I markets the Agile-Launched, Tactically-Integrated, Unmanned System or ALTIUS, a tube-stored drone deployable from the ground, air or sea.
Brian Schimpf, co-founder and CEO of Anduril, said the combined company aims to create value for defense customers and help them modernize capabilities.
Gunderson Dettmer and Covington & Burling acted as Anduril’s as legal advisers on the transaction.
Cozen O’Conner and BlackArch Partners served as legal and financial advisers to Area-I, respectively.
