Ameresco (NYSE: AMRC) has secured a 22-year contract worth almost $143M to support energy conservation efforts within Joint Base San Antonio in Texas.
The U.S. Air Force Civil Engineer Center said Friday the contract covers the installation of 20 megawatts of renewable energy systems within JBSA’s fence line and modernization of energy security through microgrid control technologies.
The company will also modernize heating, ventilation, air conditioning energy management control systems and additional HVAC thermal energy storage, among other things, at 900 buildings across the military installation.
The effort is expected to reduce energy usage in JBSA facilities by 24 percent.
Tom Mieczkowski, team chief for the 802nd Civil Engineering Squadrons energy manager section, said the cost savings that will emerge from the work will help JBSA achieve energy resiliency to sustain the base’s missions while conserving energy.
JBSA coordinated with AFCEC and the Defense Logistics Agency-Energy to obligate $2.7M through the military’s Facilities Sustainment, Restoration and Modernization program to reduce the governments capital investment in the energy savings performance project.
