A partnership between Amentum and BWX Technologies (NYSE: BWXT) will extend operations support at a transuranic radioactive waste disposal facility in New Mexico under a potential two-year, $296M contract option from the Department of Energy.
Nuclear Waste Partnership – which includes Orano as the key subcontractor – will continue to manage the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant to ensure the protection of the public health and environment, Amentum said Tuesday.
The facility was constructed to handleTRU waste containing radioactive contents with atomic numbers greater than that of uranium.
John Vollmer, CEO of Amentum and a five-time Wash100 awardee, said the partnership “will work closely with our DOE client and WIPP stakeholders to ensure continued progress in cleaning up the nation’s nuclear legacy.”
The exercised option includes a pair of additional six-month extension periods and brings the contract's cumulative value to $2.7B.
