Alion Secures $77M Air Force Task Order for F-35 Aircraft, Weapons Systems R&D

Alion Science and Technology has received a five-year, $77 million research and development task order from the U.S. Air Force under a Department of Defense Information Analysis Center multiple-award contract vehicle in support of the F-35 Lightning II Joint Program Office.

The company said Friday it will analyze and study radar and electronic systems, power generators, aircraft launch and recovery equipment and other weapons systems and platforms that could help JPO in its F-35-related efforts.

Aside from aircraft research and technical studies, the task order also covers delivery of platform alternatives, shipboard systems and avionics essential to ensuring F-35 life cycle affordability.

Alion will focus on addressing weapons system’s technical or supportability deficiencies that affect its performance.

Terri Walker-Spoonhour, acting senior vice president and general manager of Alion’s Cyber and Electronic Warfare Group, cited the partnership between JPO and the company that included aircraft and weapons system integration and validation in support of the office’s efforts to “advance F-35 systems into the next generation.”
