Founded in 2016, Airbus OneWeb Satellites JV produced more than 600 satellites for the first-generation OneWeb satellite constellation, Airbus U.S. Space & Defense said Monday.
The completion of the transaction has made Airbus U.S. Space & Defense the sole owner of AOS and the satellite production plant in Merritt Island, Florida.
“This agreement furthers our position as a market leader in the small satellite constellation business, building on our successful partnership with OneWeb,” said Robert Geckle, chairman and CEO of Airbus U.S. Space & Defense.
“We will continue mass producing small satellites for our customers and are excited for what the future holds for us on Florida’s Space Coast as we move forward,” added Geckle, a previous Wash100 awardee.
Airbus U.S. has begun an expansion project to meet the rising small satellite demand from government and commercial clients and retooled the Florida facility to accommodate the production line for the Arrow450 satellite bus.
