AEVEX Acquires RapidFlight Assets, Launches Drone Factory of the Future

AEVEX Aerospace, an unmanned platforms company based in California, has expanded its capabilities and product portfolio with the acquisition of assets and intellectual property from Virginia-headquartered uncrewed aircraft systems manufacturer RapidFlight.

AEVEX said the new acquisitions will give customers more options across size, endurance and payload classes.

Building Capabilities on the Battlefield

The acquisition is in line with the California firm’s drone factory of the future, an additive manufacturing approach designed to enable modular airframes to be 3D-printed at the point of need, including at the tactical edge. According to AEVEX, the drone factory of the future will also streamline logistics and sustainment and drive innovation in contested environments.

“Acquiring select RapidFlight assets is a significant step forward in how AEVEX delivers innovative solutions at speed and scale,” said Roger Wells, president of AEVEX, commented. “In contested environments, the ability to manufacture and launch drones within hours is a decisive advantage—and our expanded additive manufacturing expertise helps make that a reality.”

AEVEX to Demonstrate Atlas for the Army

AEVEX is one of the three companies the Army selected to demonstrate Launched Effects-Short Range, or LE-SR, systems. The demonstration will allow field artillery, infantry and aviation soldiers to test the tactics, techniques and procedures for the company’s technology, called Atlas, to inform future employment to maximize impact.

Atlas is a tactical unmanned aerial system constructed using lightweight materials to achieve increased striking distances. The platform can loiter for over 70 million and reach cruise speeds of 65 knots and dash speeds of over 80 knots.
