AeroVironment (Nasdaq: AVAV) has won a $55M firm-fixed-price contract to update radio frequency technology on the U.S. Army’s Raven unmanned aircraft systems.
The award has an $862,488 initial base value and is part of a potential $248.5M indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for small UAS sustainment services awarded in April, the company said Wednesday.
Six vendors hold spots on the IDIQ and the service branch chose AeroVironment to supply RQ-20A Puma and RQ-11B Raven spares and fire control systems on a sole-source basis.
The hand-launched RQ-11B system is built to support low-altitude intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance operations, with color and infrared sensors that allow for day and night observation.
