John Landwehr, a vice president and public sector chief technology officer at Adobe Systems (Nasdaq: ADBE), has said government agencies should leverage analytics and open standards to change the way they deliver information and services to citizens.
Landwehr wrote that analytics tools, for instance, work to facilitate access to data that citizens need.
He also called on agencies to use the private sectors citizen engagement framework as a benchmark to help address the gap when it comes to efficiency and accessibility of digital services.
A balance between off-the-shelf commercial tools and custom integration is key for efficiently and successfully achieving government missions, he added.
Landwehr noted the government should provide incentives to agencies that work to keep their online platforms updated and provide resources for organizations that face difficulties in complying with standards for digital tools.
He also called for the passage of the Modernizing Government Technology Act in an effort to help agencies meet the needs of citizens and update the federal governments information technology infrastructure.
