Boeing Defense, Space & Security has named Aaron Weis, a five-time Wash100 Award recipient, as chief information officer.
In a LinkedIn post on Wednesday, Weis announced departing Google Public Sector, where he was a managing director for technology, to take on the CIO role at Boeing.
“This is an amazing opportunity, and I’m incredibly excited to join the team and contribute to the vital work they do in support of the mission,” the executive said.
Aaron Weis’s Career Highlights
Before he joined Google, Weis spent nearly four years as the CIO of the U.S. Department of the Navy and principal staff assistant to the secretary of the Navy for Information Management. He led all information management, technology and cyber efforts for the Navy and Marine Corps and was the final authority on an $11 billion annual technology budget.
His federal career began in September 2018, when he became a senior adviser to the Department of Defense CIO. In the said role, he focused on driving strategy and supporting critical CIO programs, including the Joint Artificial Intelligence Center and enterprise cloud, cyber, and command, control and communications. Weis led the effort to release the DoD Enterprise Cloud Strategy and the Digital Modernization Strategy and the first-ever CIO accreditation of a $47 billion IT budget across the department.
The new Boeing CIO previously held key leadership roles at various companies. He was formerly the senior vice president and CIO of Axalta Coating Systems, vice president and general manager at Sensata Technologies, vice president for IT applications at Tyco International and director of enabling technology at Siemens.
Weis holds a master’s degree in business administration from Villanova University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
