The U.S. Space Force has awarded 15 companies positions on a potential $981 million indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract to develop test and range capabilities for the National Space Test and Training Complex.

The Department of War said Thursday the Space Systems Command’s Operational Test and Training Infrastructure in Colorado Springs, Colorado, received 20 offers through a competitive acquisition process and did not obligate funds at the time of award.
What Is the Scope of the Space Force Contract?
The contract, formally titled National Space Test and Training Complex Innovative Technology and Engineering – Space Test and Range Capability Development, provides support to space- and ground-based engineering activities intended to enhance test, evaluation and training operations.
Work will occur at various locations and is expected to run through July 29, 2032.

What Work Will the Task Orders Cover?
According to a solicitation issued in March, the task orders issued under the contract will span several areas, including:
- Development and integration of space-based systems such as satellites, payloads and sensors
- Deployment of ground systems, including command-and-control architectures, radars and tracking infrastructure
- Creation of digital environments, including hardware- and software-in-the-loop simulations and digital twins
- Sustainment and life cycle management of operational systems
- Enterprise-level enhancements to improve interoperability, automation and cybersecurity
The work will support testing, evaluation and training across live, virtual and constructive environments.
What Other Space Force Contracts Have Recently Been Awarded?
The new contract follows a series of other recent Space Force awards. SpaceX has received two task orders worth a combined $1.6 billion covering 18 Falcon 9 launches, which will carry payloads supporting the Space Based Sensing and Targeting portfolio.
Sphinx Defense has secured a $287 million other transaction authority agreement to develop and prototype a mission planning application for the Evolved Strategic SATCOM program.
Meanwhile, the Space Development Agency has awarded approximately $1.75 billion in prototype agreements to L3Harris and Sierra Space to deliver 36 Accelerated Missile Defense Tranche 3 space vehicles for the Tracking Layer of the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture.
