The Senate has confirmed V2X Chief Growth Officer Roger Mason to serve as director of the National Reconnaissance Office.

Mason, who was nominated in April, succeeds Christopher Scolese, a five-time Wash100 awardee, as head of NRO. Scolese departed the agency on July 10 after nearly seven years in office.
Who Else Was Confirmed Alongside Mason?
Mason’s confirmation came as part of a broader Senate en bloc vote of 50 to 47 on Thursday, July 30, that also confirmed Jules “Jay” Hurst as Pentagon comptroller and Erich Hernandez-Baquero as Air Force assistant secretary for space acquisition and integration, Breaking Defense reported.
Hurst had performed the duties of comptroller since August 2025 before being tapped to take on the role full time. Hernandez-Baquero, a retired Air Force colonel, will oversee Space Force acquisition programs after most recently serving as vice president for space intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance at RTX subsidiary Raytheon.
President Donald Trump nominated Hernandez-Baquero for the Air Force assistant secretary role in April and Hurst for the comptroller post in May.
Who Is Roger Mason?
Mason is a defense industry executive and a four-time Wash100 Award recipient who currently oversees corporate strategy, technology and business development, government affairs, competitive intelligence and growth operations as CGO of V2X.
Before joining V2X in 2025, he was a senior vice president at Parsons. He also served as president of the space and intelligence sector at Peraton and held senior leadership positions at Noblis, General Dynamics and the Institute for Defense Analyses.
He also served as the first assistant director of national intelligence for systems and resource analyses within the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
Mason also chaired the Intelligence Group in Executive Mosaic’s 4×24 Leadership Program, a networking community that connects senior executives with strategic business opportunities, access to federal decision-makers and a framework for growth in the government contracting market.
During his Senate confirmation hearing in June, Mason told lawmakers that commercial space capabilities, AI and growing intelligence demands are reshaping the agency, noting that NRO is adapting to rapid technological change fueled by private-sector innovation.
What Is NRO?
NRO is a government agency within the U.S. intelligence community responsible for developing, launching and operating the country’s network of spy satellites that deliver signals intelligence and imagery to military commanders and policymakers.
In June, NRO launched the NROL-179 mission aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, marking the 14th deployment under its proliferated architecture initiative and the third such launch of 2026. In May, the agency launched the NROL-172 mission from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. In January, NRO launched the NROL-105 mission, deploying a new batch of satellites as part of its proliferated architecture initiative.
