What Are the Transaction Details?

Under the terms of the definitive agreement, MDA Space will purchase 100 percent of BCT’s membership interests. The transaction is subject to customary purchase price adjustments, regulatory approvals and other closing conditions, with completion expected by the end of 2026.

What Capabilities Will Blue Canyon Bring to MDA Space?

Blue Canyon designs and manufactures spacecraft, satellite components and mission systems. Founded in 2008, the Colorado-based company has supported more than 85 spacecraft launches and has over 3,500 products currently operating in orbit. BCT employs more than 400 personnel and operates two manufacturing facilities in the Denver aerospace hub.

The company has supported a range of government and civil space missions, including NASA’s Polarized Submillimeter Ice-cloud Radiometer mission and DARPA’s Blackjack satellite constellation program. Blue Canyon has also expanded its satellite manufacturing capacity in recent years to support growing customer demand.

MDA Space said the acquisition will expand its U.S. business and manufacturing footprint while strengthening its position in the rapidly growing space sector.

Mike Greenley, CEO of MDA Space, said the transaction is expected to accelerate the company’s expansion strategy by increasing access to U.S. market opportunities and strengthening its operational capabilities.

“Securing those strategic benefits on an accretive basis with a profitable and cash-generating business makes this an ideal fit for MDA Space expansion and continued shareholder value creation.”

The acquisition comes as MDA Space continues to expand its presence in the U.S. defense space market. In June, the company was selected by BAE Systems to provide antenna technologies for the Space Systems Command’s MEO Epoch 2 missile warning and tracking constellation.
