- PDW is acquiring Vanteon to expand tactical communications capabilities
- The acquisition will bring expertise in RF systems, software-defined radios and embedded engineering to PDW
- The deal supports the development of next-generation unmanned systems for defense missions
PDW has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Vanteon, a New York-based engineering company specializing in communications, radio frequency systems and software-defined radio technologies.
PDW said Thursday the planned transaction is intended to strengthen its ability to develop next-generation small uncrewed aircraft systems and expand communications capabilities at the tactical edge.
What Capabilities Does Vanteon Bring to PDW?
Vanteon has more than four decades of experience developing communications, wireless and embedded systems technologies. The company employs approximately 40 engineers with expertise spanning RF design, software-defined radios, embedded software, digital signal processing, field-programmable gate array development and advanced hardware engineering.
According to PDW, integrating those capabilities will enhance its vertically integrated development and manufacturing model and support the delivery of communications-enabled unmanned systems for defense and public safety customers.
James Slider, CEO of PDW, said resilient communications and rapid technology development are increasingly important requirements for military operations.
He added that Vanteon’s engineering expertise in hardware, software integration and payload development will help accelerate innovation across PDW’s product portfolio.
How Does the Deal Support PDW’s Growth Strategy?
The acquisition comes as PDW continues to expand its presence in the defense unmanned systems market.
The company develops and manufactures tactical drone platforms designed to support intelligence, surveillance, electronic warfare and strike missions. PDW operates Drone Factory 01, a production facility with the capacity to manufacture up to 100,000 systems annually.
In 2024, the U.S. Army selected PDW’s C-100 drone under the Company-Level Small Uncrewed Aircraft System Directed Requirement program. The award was issued alongside Anduril Industries under a 10-year indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract intended to accelerate the fielding of commercially developed small drone capabilities to soldiers.
What Happens Next?
PDW and Vanteon expect the transaction to close upon satisfaction of the customary closing conditions.
The McLean Group and Harris Beach Murtha served as Vanteon’s financial adviser and legal counsel, respectively. Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati provided legal counsel to PDW.
