Marcus Lopez Joins Akima as Chief Operating Officer

Marcus Lopez has been appointed chief operating officer of Akima, a provider of mission-focused services to the federal government, the company said Thursday.

Who Is Marcus Lopez?

Lopez is a seasoned operations executive and business strategist with over three decades of experience steering operational performance, expanding market presence and advancing technology initiatives within both government and commercial sectors. He has driven growth and improved organizational performance in mission-focused environments. He has overseen distributed teams, contributed to the expansion of large-scale enterprises, and played key roles in mergers and acquisitions. 

What Role Will Marcus Lopez Play at Akima?

Lopez will oversee operational execution and program delivery across its federal services portfolio. In the role, he will work closely with President and CEO Bill Monet and other senior leaders to help shape and implement the company’s long-term strategy, ensuring initiatives align with Akima’s broader vision and objectives. Lopez will also focus on enhancing operational performance, advancing enterprise-wide standardization and supporting business leaders on priority strategic efforts.

Lopez’s Pre-Akima Career

Most recently, Lopez served as president and chief growth officer at Belcan, a Cognizant company, where he supported integration efforts within a multibillion-dollar enterprise and advanced the delivery of commercial technologies to the government sector. He previously led ManTech‘s advanced research and technology business unit and served as deputy director of the Office of Naval Research. Lopez was the COO of Strike Fighter Squadron ELEVEN and division director at the National Reconnaissance Office. He also served in the U.S. Navy for over 13 years.
