The U.S. Air Force has awarded US Aviation Academy a 10-year, $835 million contract to provide initial pilot training, or IPT, for the military branch’s flight officers.
What Is the Scope of the USAF IPT Contract?
Under the training contract, US Aviation Academy said Tuesday it will provide private pilot, instrument rating and multiengine training at its campuses in Denton, Texas; New Braunfels, Texas; San Marcos, Texas; and Peachtree City, Georgia.
The organization will leverage its glass cockpit aircraft, Federal Aviation Administration-approved curriculum and standardized instructional methodologies to support the Air Force contract.
“We are honored to support the United States Air Force in preparing the next generation of United States Air Force Pilots,” said Mike Sykes, CEO of US Aviation Academy. “This contract reflects the confidence placed in our instructors, facilities, and underscores our ability to deliver consistent, high-quality outcomes across multiple campuses.”
In a Department of War news release published in December, the Air Force’s 338th Enterprise Sourcing Squadron said it launched a competitive acquisition process and received eight offers for the indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract.
What Is IPT in the Air Force?
The Air Force’s IPT program aims to provide standardized, performance-based pilot training designed to help students develop foundational flying skills necessary for follow-on training pipelines.
Training is carried out using contractor-provided aircraft, curriculum, simulators and instructional services in alignment with the performance work statement.
