GE Aerospace has secured a $1.4 billion contract from Naval Air Systems Command for Lots 9–13 of T408 engines for the U.S. Marine Corps’ CH-53K King Stallion heavy-lift helicopter.
What Are the Terms of GE Aerospace’s CH-53K Contract?
The award follows six earlier contracts awarded to GE Aerospace for T408 engines, including a $684 million block-buy for Lots 6–8 announced in April 2023.
“This latest contract is a testament to the T408’s ability to deliver the power, durability and efficiency the Marine Corps depends on,” Scott Snyder, heavy lift engines program director at GE Aerospace. “We are honored to support the CH-53K and the critical mission it performs for Marines, joint forces and allies around the globe.”
The Naval Air Systems Command at Patuxent River in Maryland serves as the contracting activity.
How Do T408 Engines Enhance CH-53K Performance?
The T408 provides 7,500 shaft horsepower and improved fuel efficiency compared to the GE Aerospace T64. It features 63 percent fewer parts and advanced durability enhancements to enhance reliability and reduce maintenance demands.
The CH-53K King Stallion is capable of transporting three times the load of its predecessor, the CH-53E. The heavy-lift aircraft is deployed to support long-range air assault, special operations, search and rescue, and humanitarian missions.
