Firefly Aerospace, a space and defense technology company, has recruited Ramon Sanchez to serve as its chief operating officer.
Firefly said Thursday that Sanchez, a former Boeing senior director and an Army veteran, will oversee the company’s day-to-day operations and the production of launch vehicles, lunar landers and spacecraft.
According to Firefly CEO Jason Kim, Sanchez brings to the role experience “improving and upscaling complicated space production lines” in heavy rockets and spacecraft constellations and missiles.
“His operational experience in building cross-functional teams for diverse production systems, people leadership skills, and expertise in quality, engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain supporting end-to-end spaceflight is a valuable asset for Firefly,” the executive added.
Who Is Ramon Sanchez?
Sanchez joins Firefly from Boeing, where he served in leadership roles for over 12 years. His most recent role was as senior director of operations for space intelligence and weapon systems.
He also supported Boeing’s CST 100 Starliner Program, the aerospace company’s commercial crew and cargo transport for the International Space Station, according to his LinkedIn profile.
“I look forward to building on the expertise of the team to drive factory stability, production harden systems, and execute on the commitments we’ve made to our shareholders and customers,” Sanchez stated.
What Is Firefly Aerospace?
Based in Cedar Park, Texas, Firefly enables government and commercial customers to launch, land and operate in space.
The company provides launch services for the U.S. Space Force and NASA in support of space defense and exploration missions.
In August, Firefly was among the six companies to secure a contract from NASA to study cost-effective approaches to launch spacecraft to challenging orbits. Under the contract, Firefly will deploy its Elytra orbital vehicles for for payload delivery and imaging.
