The U.S. Navy has awarded Huntington Ingalls Industries a cost-plus-fixed-fee and cost-plus-award-fee contract valued at $30.9 million to support its fleet of San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ships. The contract includes options that, if exercised, will raise the total value of the program to $286.8 million, the Department of War said Wednesday.
How Will HII Support the Navy?
Under the contract, HII will provide post-delivery and engineering services to the Navy. The company developed San Antonio-class ships in partnership with the Navy and the Marine Corps. The vessels are equipped with Bushmaster II cannons, rolling airframe missile launches, CH-46 Sea Knight helicopters and landing craft air cushion.
San Antonio-class ships are designed to carry out amphibious and expeditionary warfare missions and support humanitarian and disaster relief activities.
Work will be performed in Pascagoula, Mississippi, and Norfolk, Virginia, through December 2030, if all options are exercised.
The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., serves as the contracting activity.
How Many San Antonio-Class Ships Does the Navy Have?
HII said it has delivered 13 San Antonio-class ships to the Navy, the first one, called USS San Antonio, delivered in 2005.
In September 2024, the company secured a $5.8 billion contract from the Navy to build and deliver three more San Antonio-class ships designated as LPD 33, LPD 34 and LPD 35. Work on the ships is expected to be completed in 2035.
