Intuitive Machines, provider of space technology and infrastructure services, has agreed to acquire Lanteris Space Systems, formerly Maxar Space Systems, from Advent International for $800 million.
The transaction, which consists of $450 million in cash and $350 million in stock, is expected to close in the first quarter of 2026, Intuitive Machines said Tuesday.
How Will the Acquisition Expand Intuitive Machines’ Capabilities?
The acquisition brings the total revenue of the combined entity to $850 million, with backlogs worth $920 million as of Sept. 30, according to Intuitive Machines CEO Steve Altemus.
The move also transforms Intuitive Machines into a vertically integrated space company capable of designing, manufacturing and overseeing missions from Earth orbit to the moon, Mars and beyond.
“This marks the moment Intuitive Machines transitions from a lunar company to a multi-domain space prime, setting the pace for how the industry’s next generation will operate,” Almus added.
Intuitive Machines’ acquisition of Lanteris comes a few months after its purchase of aerospace company KinetX, a move expected to strengthen its deep-space navigation and constellation management capabilities.
What Does Lanteris Do?
Lanteris is a spacecraft manufacturer known for delivering reliable satellites and space technologies for national security, civil and commercial missions. Its Lanteris 1300 series, first introduced in the 80s, provides geostationary communications satellites, with over 95 spacecraft currently in orbit.
“Our focus over the last two and half years has been to position Lanteris for sustainable growth by pivoting and investing behind national security priorities including helping enable next-generation missile defense for America,” commented Shonnel Malani, managing partner at Advent International. “This ongoing equity partnership underscores our confidence in the strength of this business combination and the long-term growth opportunity ahead.”
