Travis Hite Takes on Chief Data Officer Role at Astrion

Travis Hite, vice president of innovation at Astrion, has assumed additional responsibilities as chief data officer at the defense and space technology company.

Hite announced his new role at Astrion in a LinkedIn post published Tuesday.

“This new role builds on the incredible work our teams have done across capabilities in Test & Evaluation, Cyber, Systems Engineering, and Mission Support as well as our Enabling Services like Finance, Contracts, HR, Growth, and Innovation,” Hite said in his post.

“Together we are laying the foundation for something bigger: a unified approach to data and digital transformation that turns information into an asset powering smarter processes, new technologies, and AI-enabled capabilities across the company,” he added.

As VP of innovation, he oversees Astrion’s research and development and artificial intelligence initiatives with a focus on shaping platforms across markets and strengthening the company’s enterprise knowledge base.

Who Is Travis Hite?

Before joining Astrion, Hite was head of rapid innovation and prototyping at LMI Forge, where he assembled teams of technologists to develop approaches to challenging government problems using human-centered design and bespoke Agile methodologies, according to his profile on the professional networking platform.

He previously served as program director of the University of Virginia’s Link Lab, a cyber-physical systems academic research group of faculty and graduate students.

His industry career included time as senior adviser for strategy and operations at Alexandria Insights, VP of government solutions at Weather Analytics and associate for organizational strategy and emerging technology at the Department of Homeland Security’s Science and Technology Directorate and the Homeland Security Advanced Research Projects Agency.

The Astrion executive also served on the House Science and Technology Committee covering transportation and homeland security R&D, advanced manufacturing and cybersecurity.

The Virginia Tech industrial and systems engineering graduate has an MBA from the university’s Pamplin College of Business.
