The Department of State has approved the Polish government’s request to purchase AIM-120D Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles for $1.33 billion. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Tuesday that RTX will serve as the principal contractor of the proposed foreign military sale.
Details of Poland’s $1.33B FMS
According to DCSA, Poland wants to buy 400 AIM-120D3 AMRAAM, guidance sections and related equipment. AMRAAM is an all-weather, beyond-visual-range, air-to-air missile that can improve the aerial combat capabilities of the U.S. military and allies.
Warsaw also plans to purchase Common Munitions Built-in-Test Reprogramming Equipment, ADU-891 adapter group test sets, KGV-135A encryption devices, spares and repair parts, and repair and return support.
In addition, the U.S. government and RTX will provide contractor engineering, technical and logistics under the FMS.
The State Department determined that the transaction would not adversely impact U.S. defense readiness nor alter the basic military balance in the region. Poland already operates AMRAAMs and would not encounter any challenges in absorbing the weapons into its armed forces.

In May 2024, the Polish government also purchased Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missiles-Extended Range missiles under a $735 million contract with the United States. The JASSM-ER has a range of about a thousand kilometers.
In March 2024, the State Department also approved Warsaw’s request to buy 821 missiles and 745 AMRAAMs. Lockheed Martin and RTX were named as principal contractors of the FMS.
