Iridium Communications (Nasdaq: IRDM) will deliver broadband and midband capabilities to the U.S. Space Force under a potential 10-year indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract.
The multiple-award contract covers the provision of the Iridium Certus L-band terminals and service to support the U.S. military’s effort to proliferate satellite communication services in low Earth orbit, Iridium said Tuesday.
Iridium Certus will help maintain broadband connectivity for multidomain operations in support of the Primary, Alternate, Contingency and Emergency communications architecture of the Department of Defense’s Joint All Domain Command and Control initiative.
“We are especially proud of the increased collaboration between the U.S. government and our ecosystem of partners who bring their expertise to further enhance the capabilities of the DoD’s SATCOM portfolio,” said Scott Scheimreif, executive vice president of government programs at Iridium.
Contractors, many of which are Iridium partners, were awarded spots on the $900 million Proliferated Low Earth Orbit Satellite-Based Services vehicle in July. The contract has a five-year base period and five option years.
