Army Picks 4 Contractors to Develop Common Tactical Truck Prototypes

Four companies have secured other transaction agreements worth a combined $24.25 million to offer commercially based variants of the U.S. Army’s Common Tactical Truck.

Mack Defense, Navistar Defense, Oshkosh Defense and the American Rheinmetall Vehicles–GM Defense team will each submit three prototypes of the M915 Line Haul Tractor and M1088 Medium Tractor, Palletized Load System and Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck, the service branch said Friday.

Under the OTA awards, contractors will also conduct wrecker design studies and digital designs of the off-road tractor, load handling system and line haul tractor.

The Army seeks to address gaps in autonomy, driver safety systems, fuel consumption and predictive maintenance through the project.

A program office will assess submitted prototypes sometime in 2024 and use evaluation data to prepare a capabilities development document for the Army Requirements Oversight Council.

The branch expects to decide on whether to launch a full and open competition in fiscal year 2026.
