Lockheed-Leonardo-Avio Aero Team Secures $426M Contract to Sustain Italian Military Airlifter Fleet

An industry team composed of Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT), Leonardo and Avio Aero has secured a potential $426 million contract to provide technical and logistical support services to Italy’s fleet of C-130J military transport aircraft.

The Italian defense ministry’s aeronautical armaments and airworthiness directorate cleared the five-year deal with the three companies collectively named Temporary Business Grouping, Lockheed said Monday.

Contractor representatives will provide integrated logistical, engineering support and on-site support to fleet operations at the 46th Air Brigade base in Pisa, Italy.

Leonardo and Avio Aero could perform aircraft maintenance work at the companies’ respective facilities in Tessera and Brindisi as a complement to services that will be carried out at the Pisa station.

Italy’s air force uses its C-130J planes in emergency air medical transportation, humanitarian, civil protection and biocontainment missions.
