Raytheon Technologies (NYSE: RTX) has received a $250 million award that increases the potential value of its contract with the U.S. Air Force to incorporate baseline engineering changes into the StormBreaker glide bomb system baseline.
The sole-source contract calls for Raytheon Missiles and Defense to design, develop, integrate, test and engineer an updated configuration for the GBU-53/B weapon, originally known as Small Diameter Bomb II, the Department of Defense said Thursday.
DOD’s award notice indicates the contract now has cumulative face value of $700 million and the company will perform work in Tucson, Arizona, through Aug. 22, 2027.
The Air Force cleared the StormBreaker technology for use on the Air Combat Command’s F-15E fighter platform in October 2020.
Raytheon said the bomb includes a multimode seeker and can travel more than 40 miles to reach targets.
