Calvelli has 34 years of intelligence community experience that includes service at the National Reconnaissance Office, the White House said Wednesday.
He worked as NRO’s principal deputy director from July 2012 to October 2020, a role that involved oversight of day-to-day agency operations and space programs.
In his current role, Calvelli is responsible for building client relationships and driving growth initiatives within Booz Allen’s national security program.
His nomination comes nearly four months after Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall announced the creation of a service acquisition executive role to oversee space systems and programs.
“My vision for this position is that it should be largely a technical and managerial role that combines the traditional acquisition responsibilities with broader responsibilities for technical integration of space systems across the board, including the non-space systems,” Kendall was quoted as saying by Breaking Defense in August.
