The State Department has approved the Philippines’ request to buy 14 Boeing-made (NYSE: BA) Harpoon Block II missiles from the U.S. under a potential $120 million foreign military sales agreement.
The Philippines asked to procure 12 AGM-84L-1 air-launched missiles, two ATM-84L-1 exercise missiles, containers, parts and training equipment as the country’s air force aims to modernize its fighter aircraft fleet that supports maritime security operations, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Thursday.
DSCA added the proposed transaction also includes technical documentation, logistics and engineering support services.
The agency expects the sale to help the Southeast Asian country to defend against amphibious threats, coastal blockades and other forms of maritime aggression.
The FMS agreement also calls for U.S. contractor or government representatives to provide program management and technical assistance to the Southeast Asian country.
