Biden Signs $1.9T Rescue Package With $1B for TMF; GSA’s Katy Kale Quoted

President Joe Biden on Thursday signed into law a $1.9 trillion COVID-19 pandemic relief package that includes $1 billion for the Technology Modernization Fund and $150 million for the Federal Citizen Services Fund.

The General Services Administration oversees the two funds and GSA said Thursday the TMF allocation will help agencies update their tech infrastructure and improve their cybersecurity posture.

Appropriations for the Federal Citizen Services Fund will support the U.S. government’s digital transformation efforts. GSA said near-term initiatives will focus on ensuring the security of systems and longer-term initiatives will pursue federal technology workforce transformation, mission delivery, citizen experience improvement and small business innovation efforts.

“The American Rescue Plan delivers essential relief to families and communities hit hardest by the pandemic, and puts us on the path to vaccinate every American. It also includes critical resources to strengthen the technology infrastructure that federal agencies use and that the American people rely on,” said Katy Kale, acting GSA administrator and a 2021 Wash100 Award winner.

Biden proposed the relief package in mid-January.
